Learning tips and trickz

Exterior

Clean, wash, and wax is the best way to make a car look good.  Coca Cola is a good crome cleaning liquid.  SPray down the engine with all parts needed to be covered to prevent it from getting wet before being sprayed.  Do not use soap.  Remember that your car is not a kitchen so do not use kitchen cleaners.

Interior

It's always good to vacuum, but it is also great to scrub the carpet.  Do not soak the carpet for it could cause it to soak through and cause the inside of the body frame to rust.  To have a car that smells good is a definate plus.  Cologne or perfume is a good spray especially in a car that is in constant heat.  Heat will cause the smell of the scent to rise into the air. "Leather interior" ppl with lether interior can clean the dirty dull looking interior with the "fast orange hand cleaner" the kind mechanics use the clean the greese of there hands. all u do is whipe down all the area with the orange cleaner then go back with a damp wet towell and wipe away all the residue. i garentee your interior will be alottta cleaner, like brand new cleaner.

Exhaust

A stainless exhuast should be wiped down with alcohol to prevent perminate stains from the oils from your hands.  "Louvered" core exhuast are bad, a "Perforated" exhaust is a great low restriction muffler.

Nitrous

Before racing make sure your bottle isnt too hott or cold.  80 Degrees F is perfect for spraying.  Some people put their bottles outside for show and to warm up their bottles before racing on a warm day.  Always remember to empy your tank from cheap gas to the 93 octane. 100 octane gas is recommended to prevent detonation damage.  A 1/4 tank is not enough.  You should fill up half your tank with high octane (93-100) to keep fuel through your system and still have a light tank.  Nitrous fans always remember good fuel and cold air is a must with one or two range colder spark plugs.

Intake

If you don't have a cold air intake and need more cold air for that short ram, remove the headlights on the side where the intake filter is located.  Replace the filter with a funnel of some sort, like a big oil funnel attached to the end of the intake and exposing the wide open side of the funnel through where the headlight was located.  This will help air flow faster and more compacted.  Remember the colder the air, the more compressed it is.  That will mean the larger amounts of air it will recieve.

Spark Plugs

Frequent checks of a spark plug can save your motor.  CHeck your spark plugs every time you change your oil or wash your car look for cracked, chipped, rusted, yellowing, dirt, and melting of a spark plug. If any of these signs occure you should change your spark plugs emedialtly to prevent future damages to the motor.  A brown or gray-tan color and slight electrode wear is a correct heat range for an engine.

Adjustable Cam Gears

SOHC only:  Single over head cam engines have only have one cam gear so experiments by advancing it 2 degrees and see how it will permform.  THen try it with 2 Degrees retard.  You will find more power one way or the other.

DOHC only:  Double over head cams have 2 cam gears; One for the intake and the other for the exhaust camshafts.  Most Honda tunners with (DOHC) start with the exhaust cam retartded 2 Degrees and and an intake cam advanced 2 Degrees.  Retarding and Advancing to the performance of your intake and exhuast.  You will gain of 30 + HP.

Finding a good motor

If you want to find a good motor to swap look for signs of engine damage, besides the car being crushed.  Check to see if the inside is clean then the motor will most likely be as well.  Look under the oil cap and see if there is white or milky-looking oil that would be a sign of a bad engine compression or a blown gasket.  Check the dip stick for the same thing.  Then see if there is water spotting or bubbles, if so water has gotten into the oil.  CHeck the spark plugs for defects of any kind, if any defects then valves may be worn or damaged.
